Phoenix, Ariz. March 2, 2011. With spring break approaching, many Arizonans are considering a variety of plans and places to greet the season. To help hopeful travelers narrow down that perfect vacation, AAA Arizona offers its recommendations for its top sought destinations.
“With school out of session and the lure of warmer weather, a spring break getaway is hard to resist,” said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona. “And with so many diverse attractions nearby, it’s easy to find a trip, whether you’re a college co-ed or a family.”
To help eager vacationers pick their spring recess, AAA Arizona offers its top three searched destinations on its website, and what to do and where to stay when you get there:
Las Vegas
What to see:
Dubbed the “Entertainment Capital of the World,” Las Vegas has no shortage of things to do and see for tourists of any age. However, amongst Sin City’s top destinations is the top of the town – literally. Stratosphere Tower, the tallest freestanding tower in the U.S., offers spectacular 360-degree views of the city from both indoor and outdoor observation decks. But for those seeking a more extreme panorama, visit the tower-top thrill rides, including aptly named “Insanity—The Ride,” which swings out beyond the tower’s edge to spin riders in circles 900 feet above the famous Vegas Strip.
For those looking for entertainment closer to the ground, consider taking in a show. Las Vegas offers everything from magic to music, and AAA members can save up to $40 on select tickets for Blue Man Group Las Vegas at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino, a AAA Five Diamond property.
Where to stay:
The city offers hundreds of hotel options, but for a AAA Five Diamond experience, stay at the Bellagio. Located in the heart of the Strip, this Five Diamond resort overlooks its own Mediterranean-blue lake in which fountains perform the resort’s signature water ballet spectacle choreographed to music and lights. The resort also hosts two Five Diamond restaurants, Picasso and Le Cirque, plus a casino, live entertainment, pools, a spa, shopping, and more.
San Diego
What to see:
San Diego is called “America’s Finest City,” and for good reason. This coastal city offers sunshine, warmth, and beaches fit for a postcard. Therefore, the best way to take in the balmy breezes and spectacular sights is to take a stroll through the park – Balboa Park. Situated near downtown, this historic recreational site features stunning Spanish-Colonial architectural landmarks that were once hosts to two World’s Fairs.
While you’re there, you can visit more than a dozen museums, or take a walk on the wild side by visiting the world-renowned San Diego Zoo. AAA members can save 10 percent on the zoo’s Best Value Ticket Package, which includes admission, guided 40-minute bus tour, Skyfari aerial tram ride, and Children’s Zoo.
Where to stay:
If you cannot resist the charm of the city’s center, try The Westin San Diego in the heart of downtown. This 25-floor crystalline-designed AAA Four Diamond property is a stand-out along the city skyline, and offers magnificent panoramic views of the San Diego Bay, Balboa Park, and everything in between. The hotel is within walking distance of the San Diego Convention Center, Seaport Village, and numerous attractions, restaurants and shopping centers.
Anaheim
What to see:
Once upon a time this Orange County town was marked by its plentiful citrus groves; but today, it’s better recognized as home to the “happiest place on earth.” Disneyland has been drawing visitors, both young and old, since 1955 to meet Mickey, Minnie, and other characters who live amongst the park’s eight theme lands. Children at heart come to enjoy the parades along Main Street, U.S.A., spin in the teacups on the Fantasyland Mad Tea Party ride, or plunge through the darkened tracks of the Space Mountain roller coaster in Tomorrowland.
AAA Travel offers great deals and special AAA member pricing on Disneyland vacations and packages. Members can find ways to save on their Disney escape by visiting their nearest AAA office, or find deals online.
Where to stay:
Visitors who want to experience the magic beyond the park can find it at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, a AAA Four Diamond resort. In the heart of Downtown Disney District, this American Craftsman-styled resort showcases outstanding views of the Disney parks. Within the resort are countless amenities, including a pool with a whimsical redwood slide, a variety of dining experiences, entertainment and events, and a world-class spa.
AAA also encourages spring breakers to become familiar with AAA’s mobile solutions before they depart on their vacations. A variety of smart phone applications allow travelers to find discounts, summon roadside assistance, and locate nearby hotels, fuel price information, directions and more, wherever you are.
