Phoenix, Ariz. October 20, 2010. There’s no better way to get in the spirit of Halloween than to stay at a haunted hotel. Fortunately, Arizonans interested in the paranormal don’t have to travel far, as there are a number of properties known for supernatural activity across the state.
“Many travelers seek out haunted hotels as they provide a unique travel experience,” said Jim Prueter, travel spokesman for AAA Arizona. “While there’s no guarantee guests will experience the supernatural, many thrill-seeking travelers select these properties for the chance that they may have a paranormal experience.”
If you dare stay in one of Arizona’s haunted hotels, AAA Arizona recommends the following:
- Hassayampa Inn, Prescott. Established in 1927, this AAA Three Diamond property retains many remnants of the past, including a ghost named Faith. Countless people have reported seeing Faith, who was once a guest at the hotel. Faith has appeared crying at the end of a bed, dressed in a pink gown in the hallway, and disappearing in various rooms. Rooms rates start at $79 per night.
- Hotel Monte Vista, Flagstaff. Also established in 1927, this property was once featured on the television show Unsolved Mysteries. Many guests have reported to have seen the figure of a bellboy standing outside of their guest room. In fact, John Wayne experienced this ghost while he was a guest of the hotel. The celebrity reported that the ghost seemed friendly, and he did not feel threatened by its presence. Room rates start at $65 per night.
- Hotel San Carlos, Phoenix. Established in 1928, this AAA Three Diamond property has been rumored to be haunted by a variety of spirits for many years. It has been featured on the Travel Channel's “Weird Travels” and ranked number three on Horror.com's “America's Top 10 Haunted Hotels" list. A walking tour that guides guests through the hotel, visiting paranormal hotspots and hearing stories about the personalities who are said to haunt them, is available with the Ghosts of Phoenix Tour. You do not need to be a guest of the hotel to take the tour, however, room rates start at $100 per night.
