AAA Launches Two Innovative Services for Mobile Phone Users

*AAA FindMeSM allows Sprint® customers to have their GPS location sent directly to AAA when requesting roadside assistance; AAA Mobile Web offers enhanced travel info for smartphone users.

Phoenix, Ariz., May 6, 2010. AAA launched two innovative new services for mobile phone users this month making access to the nation’s largest motor club and its travel resources even easier. *AAA FindMe allows any AAA member who is a Sprint subscriber with a newer phone to have their GPS location instantly transmitted to AAA roadside assistance; while the newly enhanced AAA Mobile Web puts AAA travel information at the fingertips of any smartphone user with Internet access.

No street signs? No mile markers? No problem with *AAA FindMe

For the first time in the wireless industry, AAA has teamed with Sprint to allow members to provide AAA with their GPS location without any additional charges, special devices or required downloads.

“Suffering from car trouble is bad enough, but it can be made worse when you’re in an unfamiliar location and have trouble relaying to AAA where to send assistance,” said Marshall L. Doney, AAA Automotive vice president. “*AAA FindMe will enhance member safety and security by providing AAA emergency service operators with stranded motorists’ GPS locations so roadside technicians can locate and assist them.”

AAA members who subscribe to Sprint must opt-in to the *AAA FindMe service in advance at AAA.com/AAAFindMe by providing their AAA membership number and Sprint mobile phone number. Subscribing to the service is free of charge and does not require any downloads or added services to the mobile phone.

AAA Mobile Web enhanced to offer travelers tools on their mobile phone

In response to improving browser capabilities and the increased popularity of web-enabled mobile phones, AAA Mobile Web has been redesigned, enhanced and relaunched, making it easier to use with expanded capabilities.  AAA Mobile Web is compatible with any smartphone with an internet connection.

AAA Mobile Web offers a variety of tools and features for accessing AAA’s most popular products and services  including:

  • AAA TourBook® and CampBook content search
  • AAA Approved Auto Repair shop locator
  • AAA Show Your Card & Save® discount locations
  • AAA and CAA branch office finder
  • Information to join AAA and request roadside assistance
  • Driving directions with routing maps
  • A downloadable desktop icon for BlackBerry users

AAA Mobile Web is accessible at AAA.mobi on a mobile web device.

AAA offers a variety of mobile solutions

*AAA FindMe and the new AAA Mobile Web are just two of a variety of mobile solutions AAA offers. AAA released two popular iPhone applications last year that continue to be favorites on the iTunes App Store.

The AAA Discounts app, which has been downloaded nearly 800,000 times, helps users identify more than 110,000 locations offering AAA Show Your Card & Save discounts. The AAA Roadside app allows members to request AAA roadside assistance directly from their iPhone. Launched more than eight months ago, AAA Roadside continues to be one of the top-25 most popular free travel apps.

AAA TourBook and Show Your Card & Save information also is available on select Magellan ® personal navigation devices.

AAA Arizona, the Arizona affiliate of AAA, provides automotive, insurance and auto travel services to nearly 800,000 Arizona members.  Annually, AAA’s Emergency Road Service responds to more than 450,000 calls for help on the streets and highways of the state as well as providing insurance, travel, and financial services to AAA members and motorists.  Since its founding in 1927, AAA Arizona has been a leading advocate for the safety and security of all travelers.  In 2008, AAA was ranked the No. 1 “socially responsible” brand by Landor’s BrandAsset® Valuator.
